Summer of Content - Interesting locomotive workings
Welcome
Welcome to my gallery of train photographs, these are taken betwen Cambridge station and Whittlesford station from June 1st 2004 onwards, and generally focus on the freight locmotives that appear.

Living next to the main line the opening of the network rail depot in March and the Ipswich Tunnnel blockade has seen a dramatic rise in interesting workings, hence the name 'Summer of Content', now five years later I have kept the name and add any interesting photographs that I may take, as I travel to work by train I usually take my camera.

I now have found old pictures to scan, and now have broadband so it is easy to upload. Some of these shots came from my MSN website which has disappeared.

Enjoy !!

Here we go again, a little snow and it all falls apart at the seams, we never learn I remember the 1963 winter; same script every time - but they did tell us at school all the roads would be clogged by the time we drew our pensions.
26th Sep 2009Full engineering possesion at Whittlesford week 2
Weekend 2 shows the Up line being replaced in the stations. Normally this is in on the level and in the middle of nowhere, but because we have a footbridge over the line, some fantastic photos can be taken.
19th Sep 2009Full engineering possession at Whittlesford
At last we have the UP line being replaced, it is a danger even the Network rail people say its had it, this is 6 months since my e-mail to them with photgraphs telling them of the dangerous nature of the track - it's this week and next

Getting back to what the collection is about, at last my first engines since Christmas, in yard.

Getting fed up of these damn strikes every 2 days, see my train in the sidings from the park and ride bus on Hills Road bridge.

At last I actually found out when the Pulman was coming !!!

All those photographs pre 2003, I will try and annotate them all, some go back to 1981 or so.

Steam and diesel, there is an open day at Cambridge which I think was to do with the extension of electric to Kings Lynn, some steam specials and when the electrification was extended up from Bishop's Stortford.

15th Feb 2009Pre 2004 Archive Items
These refer to an enginneering possesion in June/July 2003 over a weekend at Whittlesford.

This was before digial camera, the shots came out well this has not been seen again, only one engine was around when this was repeated in 2004.

Good start to the year not seen a sngle loco yet but oh so much snow and ice !!!

The station clock is an ongoing farce, basically there is an iconic clock above the ticket hall, it has broken down and it has taken taken over a year plus, still not there to repair it you should see the e-mails I have written to ONE and National Express about it. The picture is a lifelike replica made by a firm in Canada, lets see if it will turn up this year, look over the second ticket window nearest the road side of the station above and you will see the back plate for it.
6th May 2008Cathedrals Expresss
My wife took me on this train from Cambridge to Norwich on May 4 2008.

I may as well add the photos of this trip to this gallery bearing in mind we have Carlisle earlier.
11th Apr 2008Summer 2008
The year when 'ONE' finished and a bus compnay took over the railway, barriers were installed on Cambridge station (boo, boo)and the trains got more crowded, the ticket machine was broken into at Whittlesfrod, the clock at Cambridge station went wrong, guided bus ? Here is some relief from the shambles of the 'unreal' world.

I only got broadbnad in November 2008, hence the short annotation.
19th Sep 2007Summer 2007
Summer 2007 was featured by the bridge on the Ely to Bury line being hit by a freight (see shot of it in collection), we then had trains running into Cambridge via Coldhams Lane running around and Northbound to Ely.

Also found out how to get JPEGs off Quicktime video clips can you tell which ones?
20th Aug 2006General Summer 2006
Any interesting engines seen duting the summer months.

11th Aug 2006Total Engineering Possession
Earlier in the year the line was shut for three days whilst track renewal was completed at Whittlesford
4th Feb 2006New Photographs
It is now 2005/2006 so calling these part of Summer of Content is not really correct
27th Sep 2004Carlisle 25th September 2004
We went to a wedding in Carlisle, 'Matalan' (the clothes shop), is by the station so after leaving the wife and car for 45 minutes in the carpark, I went to the platforms to see if there was anything around, as you can see from the pictures it was anything but dull - what are the odds of seeing a class 20 quadruple header next to a topped and tailed class 37 special !!!!!!!!
3rd Sep 2004Ipswich Tunnel Blockade last week at Whittlesford
15th Aug 2004Central train
I have only once seen a Central trains Stansted service stop at Whittlesford on the occasion when the WAGN stopper was detained at Stortford by the British Transport Police, normally they speed through. One of the shots is at Shelford of the Cambridge Road bridge.
14th Aug 2004Electrics on the Norwich trains
How on earth you take a picture of the rear of a train going at 70 -80 mph I do not know but we have managed it several times !! Both 86 and 90's were involved, on Saturdays and Sundays they are on the front it will be sad to seen them go after 5 September 2004.
14th Aug 2004Freightliner class 66's
Freightliner class 66's are now been seen more then the normal EWS class 66's, shots taken at Whittlesford and Cambridge
